I don't want to be thought of as "nice". I don't consider that a compliment. Anyone is nice from someone's perspective. It takes no special talent or stretch of character. It
does not require humility or wit or any real effort. It is to
essentially fill up space, breathe, and be agreeable. And where is the
value in that? Being agreeable? Where is that going to get you other
than where more assertive individuals choose to put you? Now I don't
mean to downplay the importance of kindness, of being aware and
considerate of the people around you. But nice. Nice challenges
nothing, reveals nothing.
This weekend, there was rug vacuuming. And bathroom scrubbing while mourning the loss of Robert Downey Jr. from Ally McBeal, even though it happened over a decade ago.
There was a delicious candle burning, basically the entire time, that I found for $3. $3.
There was then an adequate amount of lounging (one of my most natural talents) in a freshly-cleaned, yummy-smelling house. Because that's what Saturdays are for.
That is a GORGEOUS quilt.
ReplyDeletethat quilt. where did you get it?! i've been wanting to make one like that with those colours for ages now. it's beautiful!!
ReplyDeletealso, i totally agree about the nice thing. :))
you've got saturday down to a science.
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more about niceness! To me "nice" means "boring"
ReplyDeleteThis is my kind of saturday as well. Going places is severely overrated. Why would I ever go somewhere when I could be comfy in bed?
ReplyDeleteI agree that I don't necessarily desire to be compliant or overly content in general but nice is often a challenge though and sometimes a gift.
ReplyDeleteCleaning is pretty therapeutic for me. It's strange, but things are always better with a clean house.
ReplyDeleteAnd I wished so hard to get that quilt as a wedding present, but alas, it never showed up. Looks like I'll have to go buy it myself!
i love these kinds of saturdays :)
ReplyDeleteOh, my. Your room is beautiful! The red walls and quilt make me so happy.
