I went to the gym, even.

"In many species, activity is diminished during the winter months in response to the reduction in available food and the difficulties of surviving in cold weather. Hibernation is an extreme example, but even species that do not hibernate often exhibit changes in behavior during the winter. It has been argued that SAD is an evolved adaptation in humans that is a variant or remnant of a hibernation response in some remote ancestor. Presumably, food was scarce during most of human prehistory, and a tendency toward low mood during the winter months would have been adaptive by reducing the need for calorie intake."

Conclusion: I'm lethargic, chronically tired, apathetic and lacking in creativity right now due to an evolved adaptation of hibernation.  I'm going with that.

    1. I'm so sorry about how cold it is where you are! I shouldn't be complaining at all, and I hope it thaws out soon!

  2. It's true, no amount of tea, coffee or cocoa is sparking my interest in anything creative these days, God centered things I'm all over but it's a struggle to even open my notebook right now. Boo.

  3. getting out the door is nearly impossible in the winter, no matter the occasion. also, my caloric intake increases during the winter...bad combination.

    1. Thank you, Becca :) it's so strange that mere temperature affects us the way it does. It isn't even below zero here though, so I think I should be the one offering support!

  6. YES. I can blame evolution for my lack of energy or care. Perfect. Take that, Darwin. Survival of the fittest, eh? These sweatpants sure are the fittest... (ugh. No energy to make good puns.)

  7. I read somewhere that different seasons are for different things. Winter is for rest. During the summer we stay up later, swim more, walk more, and in some cases (like me) smile more, laugh more.. But during Winter we need more rest so that by Spring we can thaw and begin to live again in time for Summer.

But srsly. Today I got out of sweats for the first time in three weeks? And all I want to do is cuddle with my cats. In bed. With a book. Or the Internet. Ten cups of tea. Oh and the new Sherlock episodes.
