when i ran myself over.

I took my mom to work this morning.  She's never ready when I get to her house, so I sit and wait for a few minutes while she does whatever she does.  This morning, I was in this exact situation, sitting in my car in the driveway listening to some music.  Nothing unusual here.

I looked around my car and saw some trash, including used napkins, an old paper cup, and a candy wrapper.  I thought to myself, "Hey, why don't I throw this away while I'm out here with nothing else to do?  That's a grand idea."  So, I gathered up the trash, opened the car door, and proceeded to walk in front of my car toward the garbage can.

This is about when I noticed I hadn't put my car in park, the kind of mistake you really regret making.  Do you understand what I'm saying?  My car was not in park, meaning I had left it in drive, meaning it was now coming straight at me and my parent's house.

I'm sure you're thinking, "Oh, that extremely common mistake?  I do that all of the time!" or "That happened to me just last week!" Regardless of how often I DON'T hear stories about this, I'm quite positive it happens very regularly.  The reason I know that is because if forgetting to put your car in park before you get out of it isn't a common mistake, that would make me some kind of gigantic idiot.  Which I am clearly not.

The car wasn't moving all that fast.  It's only a four cylinder Accord, plus it was moving up hill.  Thank heaven.  So, I did what any sensible person would do - stayed between the car and the house, and made an effort to stop the car by pushing on it.  This landed me with my leg pinned in between the car and the house.

Clearly, my actions here aren't in need of explanation.  I mean, when is it not logical to put your body in front of a moving vehicle?  But just in case you might be wondering why I did that, I was worried my car would be damaged and then I'd have to pay for it to be fixed.  Car repairs are never cheap.  Then again, I doubt fixing a broken leg is either, but I obviously wasn't too concerned with my legs at the moment.

By this time, I had started frantically screaming, "Mom!  Mooooom! MOOOOOOM!"

I had managed to stop the car and she ran out half-dressed, jumped in the car and put it in park.

Just another typical Wednesday morning.

 And here's this guy:
